Latest On Maruti Alto 800
While the Maruti Alto has enjoyed its bestselling car status in the country for years now, things have not been the same in 2018. Out of the first eight months of the year, the Alto had been on top of the sales charts for just two months, having been dethroned by the new-generation Dzire. But, as soon as the bookings pile od the Dzire comes down, the Alto is expected to regain the top spot. The reason for the Alto 800's popularity has been its efficient and refined 3-cylinder 796cc engine which makes 48PS of power and 69Nm of torque. Dial in the light steering and pedal feedback and the Alto 800 is a very easy to drive city car, ideal for city drives. The Alto also comes with an optional CNG kit in the top variant LXI variant. The claimed efficiency stands at 24.7kmpl for the petrol and 33.44kg/km for CNG. Do check out the Kwid too if you are in the market for an entry-level hatchback.
Maruti Alto 800 price starts at Rs.2.76 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi) and the top end variant Maruti Alto 800 LXI CNG (AIRBAG) is priced at Rs. 4.02 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The 796cc 3-cylinder motor in the Alto 800 makes 48PS and 69Nm with liquid fuel. Switch to optional CNG fueling, and you lose 7.5PS and 9Nm. The performance figures don't encourage spirited driving but are enough to ferry four in acceptable comfort from point A to B given the low kerb weight of around 715kg. Fuel efficiency is rated at 24.7kmpl with petrol and 33.4kmpkg with CNG
